Services

Donovan Mutschler is a working professional and process subject matter experts who has followed his passion for continuous improvement and positive change. In most cases this work has developed off the corner of his desk as part of his practice, not a part of his core job description. As part of a community of practice, he is committed to practicing the tools that he also promotes and teaches, leveraging his experiences to continuously improve his teaching deliverable. Much of his teaching is framed within narrative, which means that he also practices the art of personal and organizational storytelling as he teaches and shares his experiences.

As an Edgewalker, Donovan is always improving the way he delivers workshops and practices his craft. He brings these continuous improvements into focus as he is forever improving how he engages and shares tools of the trade.

The following are just some of the offerings available from Edgewalkers.ca:

Workshops

The origin of many Edgewalkers.ca workshops is founded in the work of the National Managers’ Community between 2000 and 2014. Under the guide of key leaders, this community of practice emerged for the purpose of polishing tools that managers were using to engage their employees so they could be shared and adopted across organizations while finding support from within the community of practitioners. Donovan continue to use the tool he promotes, finding opportunities to support and nurture the community as he engages and assists organizations.

Engagement Tools

Edgewalkers.ca currently carries over fifty engagement tools in our toolbox, all of which include a blueprint on how to best practice the tool. Practitioners are available as process subject matter experts to teach others how to use these tools in part, full or multi-day learning workshops. In addition, train-the-trainer events can be arranged for those who wish to learn how to teach the tools within their organizations. Train-the-trainer events are non-credit, non-certificate events that focus solely on equipping leaders with the tools they need to improve their organizations.

Workshops are designed to include a cross-section of tools that will equip participants to engage individuals, teams and organizations in new, invigorating ways.

Coaching Practices

We are surrounded by unspoken expectations. Managers have expectations of their employees, and employees have expectations of their managers. Co-workers have expectations of each other. Parents have expectations of their children, and children have expectations of their parents. Many of these expectations are unspoken. Some of them are also unrealistic.

Coaching Practices is a one-day workshop designed to bring participants into the world of possibility. From working with complaints to learning how to assess and respond to statements, questions and moods, this workshop engages current and aspiring leaders to change the way they have conversations. Participants will walk away from this workshop with new tools that will help them empower those around them to find and follow-through with new solutions.

Core Values

The Core Values workshop is designed as a half-day or one-day opportunity to discover personal core values, how they align (or misalign) with organizational culture, and how to use them effectively as a part of decision-making and direction-finding. Participants will learn the natural movement of their values, how to use their values to tell them when they are misaligned, and the nature of the dark side. This workshop is also available with a “work-at-your-own-pace” option. Both formats include an option for ongoing mentoring, which is especially encouraged for those who choose to work at their own pace.

Community of Practice

Edgewalkers.ca exists within a community of practice. We are an emerging organization, but we have a community structure. Anyone who identifies as an Edgewalkers.ca practitioner are important and necessary parts of the community no matter the level of involvement. Naturally occurring, communities of practice have core groups, active, occasional, peripheral and transactional participants. Each level of participation is a critical part of the community.

Edgwalkers.ca is ever-evolving. Practitioners come and go, or move from one level of participation to another. The important thing is that there is room for anyone in this community. Entire organizations may shift their culture because of involvement of a few of its members, forming new branches of the community or even their own community altogether. Our question for you is, where would you like to fit in our community?

The core group of our community serves the roll of coordinating – the web page, calls for services, opportunities to practice, continuous learning, communications and group meetings. We coordinate podcasts, publications and events designed to encourage and enhance the whole of the community. The core group consists of the leaders of the community.

The Active level of participation includes subject-matter experts who are called into action because of their expertise and passion. They may be guest speakers, community leaders, managers, spokespersons or business professionals.

Occasional participants are likely those who are newer to the community but keenly interested in being involved, serving the need and learning how to become more active. They are eager to sharpen their leadership edge, finding true purpose and new energy by being part of the community.

Peripheral participants find comfort in knowing the community is there for them and that they can identify with the community even if they only participate quietly, from a distance. They may not feel the same level of passion or need to participate, and are likely not as committed as active or occasional participants. They are likely to experience the community as more of a network than a place to practice their passion.

Transactional participants are silent partners, clients, outsiders, support people or even sponsors who find value in participating in webcasts, learning events, publications or other products of the community. They are fans of the community and may even endorse the community to others. But they are not active participant.
